Description

The Jessie is a fine, solidly built boat with a berth at Three Mills, one of the nicest community moorings in London.

The layout gives an unusual degree of space. The bow door opens into a long living room with Morso Squirrel stove and space for chairs or sofa. Then comes an oak dining/working table that can be used in a range of configurations, and an open-plan kitchen equipped with fridge, gas hob and microwave oven (gas oven possible). The full-width bathroom has a traditional sea toilet, sink and shower. Finally the bedroom contains a nearly full-width bed, made possible by an ingenious pulley system that raises half of the bed when not in use, allowing access to abundant drawers beneath.

The engine is a Perkins 100 series, 42.5 bhp, and has done recent service on the canal network and Thames. The boat safety certificate is being renewed right now.

Along with the boat comes the indefinite right to moor at Three Mills, a small mooring of about 20 boats. It is equipped with bike shed, coal shed, laundry, car park and BBQ area. Entrance is through security gates. Boats are plugged into mains electricity while moored, and there are pump-out points along the pontoons (no need to move the boats). The Jessie has wired broadband and phone. The mooring has easy access onto the River Lea and from there onto the canal network.

On the east side of the mooring is a park, Three Mills Green, with table-tennis tables and other amenities. On the west is the Strand East development, which is approaching completion and will consist of flats, small business premises, cafes and other recreational facilities. Bromley-by-Bow tube station is 10 minutes walk away, and there is also easy access to DLR lines and the transport hub at Stratford.

The Jessie has a lovely spacious homely feel and was a very happy home for five years, as was the Moorings.
