Offers are invited to purchase M.V. Pride of Sefton, launched in 1982 by the then Prince Charles and Princess Diana, the vessel was a special build by British Ship Builders and Camel Laird, this and the royal connection make Pride of Sefton quite unique, there is great potential to relocate to London and capitalise on the Royal connection for a holiday let if you have a suitable mooring. We have been living aboard and renovating at the same time however the arrival of a third child and the need for work life balance mean we have reached a decision to sell. The price is for sale as is where is, to sail away, no mooring available, we have moved off and are still working on renovating the boat as much as we can. The boat was last blacked and surveyed in 2021 when a Vetus engine and gearbox was installed to replace the old Lister at a cost of around £9000. We have posted some of the history and some recent photos more to follow as time permits. The current layout is bedroom, kitchen living room, bathroom, bedroom, covered decks fore and aft. There is a Morso stove with three radiators, shoreline 12v compressor fridge, Eberspacher blown air diesel heating (currently not connected), Cointra instant hot water, small solar charge system/pure sine inverter two leisure and one starter battery. Boat Safety Scheme Certificate valid until 15/10/2027. We are selling as a project with work in progress, which is perfectly liveable, we have included a sketch of the present layout and what we were planning to do to make best use of the space. Viewings available on the Rochdale canal close to Todmorden, thanks for looking.
We moved aboard Sefton as a family of 2 adults a teenager a 3 year old with a baby on the way, before this we were living on a 53 foot 1960’s narrowboat, our priorities when we bought Sefton were a good kitchen, bathroom and being able to keep warm through the winter, we managed to achieve this and continue to live comfortably until we moved into a house May of 2024, you would have to make your own decision regarding liveable status, as with any boat not lived on for some time there will inevitably be some snagging to be done, the asking price reflects this and we are willing to be negotiable.
Pride of Sefton was surveyed in 2021 (survey available for serious buyers) and the hull found to be in good condition, it was last blacked at this time and is now due for blacking and anodes. Over all the boat is in need of cosmetic renovation and is in our opinion a great place to start to make a home afloat. The kitchen and bathroom are fully functional, there is a 12v shoreline compressor fridge, a twin lpg hob, lpg oven and grill hot and cold running water. The hot water is instant via a Cointra lpg boiler which also supplies the bathroom where there is a shower, sink, pump out toilet and ’Natures Head’ composting toilet, the bathroom is fully tiled and has and extractor fan.
There is a Morso Squirrel multi fuel stove with back boiler supplying three radiators, one in each of the bedrooms and one in the bathroom (we have just replaced the bathroom radiator so the heating is drained at the moment).
The bedrooms are basic but functional, we were planning to remove the centre divide in the fore bedroom to make it the full width of the boat as is more traditional.
The engine is centrally located in a compartment below the small rear bedroom, we have serviced the engine annually, changing oil, filters and ATF in the gearbox, the engine is in very good condition.
There is 12v from two large batteries which powers pumps, lights, the fridge and a small pure sine inverter to provide 240v for charging laptops, phones and running tools, hairdryers etc. Charging is via a small solar system and the engine alternator, we also have a petrol generator for backup which we would consider including. There is a shore connection cable and switchover fitted.
Let us know if you would like any photos of particular things.
We cruised from Liverpool to Yorkshire over a period of 7 months without any major problems.
The hull has never been over plated and the survey pre purchase showed the original steel to be in great condition.
There is a video of the actual launch in 1982 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UDPhcb-kT4
