True classic, great interior color combination!
Modern boats create an adventure. Classic boats like this 1958 Century 16 Resorter in Alabama bring their adventures with them in the stories they have and this boat is not an exception.
Walking up to this dry stored beauty, the very first thing you realize is how beautiful the antique boat lines were. But lets tell the story first.
I always ask two question when I meet with boat sellers. The first is "Why did you buy it?" and the second "Why are you selling it?"
This boat, originally bought by the seller's father, who is now 99 years old, as a used boat to be used at the families place on the lake. The boat was a classic even when it was bought then.
After many years of the family enjoying fun times on the water with the boat, the father decided it was time to downsize his lifestyle. He decided to allow someone he knew to sell the boat. Unfortunately, the boat was moved to the field and left to suffer what could have been her last days in lonely disrepair.
Until the son got a call from someone who said "Do you own an old wooden boat that is sitting out in the field?" The seller replied he didn't but said he probably knew the story. And thus began the new adventure of this boat. She was the Ski boat of choice when she was new.
The Seller realized that unless a complete restoration was done almost immediately this boat, that was once a beauty, would soon be gone with the memories of her glory fading away.
Finding a local wooden boat expert, the seller turn the boat over ans spared no expense on her return to life.
The boat was taken to the raw wood and appears to have be carefully smoothed to near perfection. Then 16 hand layered coats of finish were applied. The restorer realized mismatched parts and replaced them either with original parts or accurate reproductions when the originals were not available, all the way down to the wrong size cleats.
Gauges were cleaned and restored to near new looking condition. The interior was completely reupholstered with new support and foam.
Walking around this boat the only thing you can do is dream of the days of the Kennedy's up on the bays speeding across the water with family in tow.
