Classic Gentleman’s Cutter – 1909 – Massive Refit – Must Sell.
Built in 1909 by W. E. Thomas in Falmouth on a Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter hull (refined as a Gentleman’s Yacht), this 62ft classic cutter (47ft without bowsprit) is a rare and beautiful piece of British sailing history.
Provenance & History
Original wax documentation (included in the sale) shows she was commissioned by Mr Buckley Haed, listed as a “Gentleman” of the Garrick Club, one of London’s most historic private clubs founded in 1831 in the heart of the West End.
She is listed on the UK Historic Ships Register and, following her recent refit, has received notable recognition including:
Runner-up, National Historic Ships Photography Competition 2021
Best Newcomer, Old Gaffers Association Yarmouth Regatta 2021
She has participated in major classic sailing events including:
Round the Island Race
Cowes Classics Week
During Cowes, while under full sail on a downwind start alongside the famous Suhaili, she drew admiration from Robin Knox-Johnston, who remarked:
“Beautiful boat.”
She has undergone a very substantial refit in recent years (circa £170k invested) and presents as a structurally strong, well-upgraded classic, now offered at a fraction of that cost for a quick sale.
