The Moody 40 is often considered to be the ultimate cruising Moody, combining luxurious accommodation and a comfortable cockpit in an easily managed size. The centre cockpit layout is perfect for long term or liveaboard cruising, offering two excellent double sleeping cabins and lots of easily accessed storage. The high-quality cabinetry, attractive lines and Moody build make these a very attractive choice for bluewater and long distance sailing. Aurora IV benefits from many upgrades including bow thruster, diesel heating, new saildrive gaiter and standing rigging (2016/17), and Raymarine navigation equipment (2018). The Moody 40 layout offers up to 7 berths in 4 cabins with full standing headroom and two separate heads compartments.
FORECABIN: Fitted with two large single berths which convert to a double V-berth. Good stowage is provided by a large hanging locker, shelved stowage locker, beneath-berth stowage space in moulded bins and eye-level lockers. An opening hatch to the foredeck, large mirror and access to the en suite make this an excellent guest cabin.
EN SUITE HEADS: Separate en suite heads compartment fitted with a marine toilet with shower seat, wash basin, and shower. Compartment finished in wipe-clean laminate surfaces with lockers for storage and an opening hatch for light and ventilation.
SALOON: The saloon has a large U-shaped settee to port, a large central dining table with folding leaves and storage, and a second settee to starboard. Easily accessed storage is provided by a range of lockers, with shelves above. Two opening hatches and fixed portlights provide natural light and ventilation. Contoured cushions with deep bases and decorative teak and holly veneered flooring create a comfortable and welcoming feel.
GALLEY: The linear galley is located to starboard and equipped with a gimballed 2-burner gas cooker with oven and grill, top accessed fridge, and a separate central unit with twin stainless steel sinks. These two areas combine to offer generous work surfaces and excellent stowage in various lockers for food, crockery, pots and pans. A passageway leads aft to the heads compartment and in turn offers secondary access to the aft cabin.
NAVIGATION AREA: A large forward-facing chart table is to port and equipped with navigation equipment, an electrical distribution panel, chart stowage, drawers and locker space. There is a wet hanging locker aft, forward of the passageway leading to the aft cabin.
PASSAGEWAY CABIN: Situated to port with a mid-level single berth and large stowage lockers below. Previous Moody 40 owners have further adapted this area in the past to offer more hanging space and effectively create a 'walk-in wardrobe' and dressing area. This passageway is the main access to the aft cabin, is fitted with an opening hatch for ventilation and provides excellent engine access.
AFT HEADS: Located to starboard and accessed via aft of the galley and with en suite access from the aft cabin. Fitted with an electric sea toilet, washbasin and separate shower area with folding screen doors, the compartment is finished with perspex, wipe clean laminate and teak furniture and has an opening portlight for ventilation.
AFT CABIN: The large owner's aft cabin features an island double berth with excellent storage provided by a large hanging locker, further cupboards and lockers, with a dressing table and en suite access to the aft heads for convenience. Accessed via the port passageway cabin which could also be incorporated as a walk-in wardrobe and dressing room if desired. An opening hatch to the aft deck combined with opening portlights in the coachroof and transom allow for plenty of natural light and ventilation.
GENERAL: Cherry wood cabinetry with teak and holly veneer soleboards throughout. Eberspacher D5L diesel fired heating with 5 outlets. Water heated by engine calorifier with immersion coil for electric water heating. Flatscreen TV and stereo system for entertainment.
Moody 40 built by Marine Projects (Plymouth) Ltd in 1998 to a Bill Dixon design. Hand-laid glassfibre construction with isophthalic gelcoat backed by initial lay-up of powder bound mat and isophthalic resin. Blue painted GRP topsides with teak-laid GRP decks and white GRP superstructure. Deck edge incorporating a raised bulwark with teak cap rail. Cast iron fin keel. Cable wheel steering to skeg hung rudder.

Located abaft companionway, Volvo MD22L 50hp 4-cylinder marine diesel engine. Freshwater cooled via heat exchanger. Single lever controls with electric start. Aluminium 274 litre fuel tank. Saildrive (new diaphragm 2016) to 3-bladed fixed propeller. Sidepower SE80 bow thruster.
The engine appears to be in excellent cosmetic condition, however the engine hours are not known due to hour meter display failure (a common issue with this type of display). The engine has been serviced in late March ready for the 2020 season.
5 x 12v Batteries (3 x 105ah domestic, with dedicated 50ah engine and 55ah bow thruster batteries) charged via the engine alternator. Shorepower system with ring mains, Victron 30 amp smart charger (new 2017) and immersion coil for water heating. Inverter suitable for running small mains powered devices away from shorepower. Solar panel. Electrical distribution panel at chart table with breaker switches, indicator lights, battery condition, fuel and water gauges. Battery isolator switches. Full cabin lighting througout with reading lights.
