This is a lovely boat, first built on the south coast (Shoreham I believe) for the Navy, in 1969, and worked as a fast harbour launch in Gibralter and possibly Malta up until the turn of the (21st) century. There is an association with the navy ship "HMS Collingwood", hence the name, but I think it more likely that the association is with the training establishment HMS Collingwood in Portsmouth. Nelson 34s are found working and cruising all over the world. Used as police boats, patrol boats, pilot launches, pretty much anything you need a robust manoeuvrable sea boat for, these boats have done it. This was a Customs launch, built with this in mind she has very accessible decks, oversized guardrails and an extended wheelhouse. The Nelson 34 is a very capable sea boat constructed to a high standard. This example is one of seventeen examples ordered by the Royal Navy in 1967 and was built by Watercraft of Shoreham and launched in 1968. In 1978 She was allocated to Devonport for use at HMS Fisgard at Torpoint. which subsequently became HMS Rayleigh. She was in service in other Naval locations until the early 2000's.
