Grimsay, North Uist Hebrides UK|
FISHER LASS is an 18' Grimsay boat suitable for inboard or outboard engine. She was used for inshore fishing by several Uist owners until 2017 when she was professionally rebuilt by the Grimsay Boatshed Trust. A traditional clinker-built transom-stern hull, great for single-handed fishing or pleasure, she is currently in prime and will be completed to your specification.
The Grimsay workboat - an open, clinker-built, wooden fishing and croft boat - has been built on Grimsay since the 1840s by the Stewart family at Kenary. Ranging in size from dinghies to 28’, as many as 1,000 may have been built, transforming local lobster fishing and crofting from the Butt to Barra. Fast, strong, light and seaworthy, they were designed to beach in rocky inlets, pass through shallow fords, and fish in the open Atlantic.
