Ortomarine parallel hybrid electric narrowboat “Paintbrush” is reluctantly being sold by its American owners as they have now concluded their exploration of the English canals. This presents an excellent opportunity to buy a high spec, well cared for Ortomarine narrowboat at a fraction of the new cost and with no wait!

The advantage of the Hybrid Marine parallel hybrid system is that you can choose whether to cruise using the 50hp Betamarine diesel engine or the 10kW electric motor - giving the best of both worlds. Whilst cruising with the engine, the 775Ahr 48v battery bank is being efficiently charged and the calorifier is producing hot water. Featuring both bow and stern thrusters, manoeuvring the boat couldn’t be easier. There is no gas needed and all appliances are standard 230V – including an induction hob, full size washer/dryer, oven, microwave and fridge. With 1.2kW of solar on the roof, much of your summer electric cruising will be powered by the sun. The boat features Ortomarine’s “Ortomate” system – a comprehensive touch-screen boat management system which provides complete local and remote monitoring of the boat, including: intruder detection; tank levels & battery status; remote/local control of deck lights, central heating, hot water; GPS tracking; Wifi (SIM card not included); high gain antenna for exceptional mobile signal coverage. Built on a Tyler Wilson semi-trad stern hull, Paintbrush was originally completed in March 2020, at the start of the COVID epidemic. The American owners weren’t able to visit their new boat until August 2021 due to travel restrictions, so the boat spent most of its first 18 months on hardstanding. The owners have visited for summer cruising since then, with winters spent out of the water. Paintbrush is in very good condition for a boat of its age and has run for relatively few hours on both electric and diesel.

Inside the boat is extremely light and airy due to the extra large 42”x24” windows (double glazed with thermal break frames) and the light paintwork. One of the owners is an artist (hence the name of the boat) so lots of natural light was important in the design of the boat. The reverse-layout design features a good sized galley with quartz worktops and plenty of storage; the open plan living area has our highly flexible, multi-position, duplex dinette & 2 easy chairs; the walk-through bathroom has a Compoost toilet & large shower cubicle; the bow bedroom features extending single beds (which could be made into a large double) and plenty of storage.
