Description

Dream, a Sadler Frigate 27 was designed by David Sadler and is an iconic boat with a mixture of sailing qualities and attractive features. In particular, the boat has a style incorporating ‘tumblehome’ which makes her stand out from other boats of this size and age. The harmony of balance, speed and stability makes her a delight to sail for cruising or racing and is particularly safe and seakindly and easy to handle.

This particular boat was moulded by Island Plastics in glass reinforced polyester in an approved environment to Lloyds specification and was completed to professional standards by Mustang Yachts in 1986. Over the years there has been a pattern of continuous improvements including complete preventative osmosis treatment and respray in 03/04, all standing rigging replaced in 2019 and a new Volvo Penta D1-13 engine and sail drive fitted in 2019, having less than 30 hours run time. The suite of sails includes a No1 furling Genoa (2006) with UV protective strip and a foam luff edge to give a smooth shape in all conditions, a No3 Foresail and slab reefing battened Main sail all is very good condition having been washed, dried and stored ashore every winter. Also includes an original spinnaker in good condition with halliards and boom. Complete re-wiring in 2012 with new GPS with cockpit repeater, DSC VHF and a portable VHF radio. Depth sounder and speed log are through hull fittings with cockpit display. The cockpit was improved and waterproofed with the addition of TekDek seating.

The boat has a cast iron fin keel weighing 1920 lbs which provides excellent balance and sailing qualities giving a draft of 4’7’’ and a displacement of 4,200 lbs. Length overall is 26’4’’ with a 19’8’’ waterline which gives a cruising speed of 6knots. With a beam of 9’2’’ provided by the tumblehome shape of the hull there is more space below than in many small boats. The Sadler 27 was designed first and foremost to be a sailboat with well laid out simple and comfortable below decks accommodation, however it should be noted that there is limited headroom in the cabin. A 4 person Life raft in a ridged case is located on the front deck. The Life Raft has no service history.

Dream is currently berthed on a pontoon at Kerrera Marina, Oban bay. The pontoon berth is available until September 30th by negotiation with owner. See marina website for details of booking for water taxi.

Accommodation is clean, tidy and comfortable for eating, sleeping and sitting: note there is limited headroom whilst standing in cabin.

The sails are in very good condition and comprise, Number 1 Furling Genoa with sacrificial UV strip in blue and foam luff edge (2006). Number 3 jib and slab reefing battened Main Sail (2006). Also included is original Spinnaker with pole and halyards.
