A modern day classic, Vertues are renowned for their seaworthiness and have completed many long ocean voyages including several circumnavigations. Yachting Monthly gave the Vertue 3rd place in its top 100 best boats of the 20th Century.
Caber, a GRP Vertue II was commissioned in 1990, built/fitted out by Bossoms of Oxford to Lloyds rules, with the owners specification of 3 berths, a bespoke Pilot house, and strengthening to the foredeck to accommodate a keel stepped unstayed mast and a Junk rig. The first owner Vincent Reddish designed and built his own Junk rig now established as the Reddish rig, based on the Chinese Ocean Trading Junks with a low aspect fan shaped sail, and sail area equivalent to that of the Vertue Bermudan rig.
The rig has the advantage of being self tacking and the sail which has 6 fully battened panels reefs automatically as it is lowered panel by panel. Ideal for solo or short handed sailing as all lines are led aft.
As second owners for 21 years, Caber has been well loved and maintained and has cruised the Irish coast to the S.W and N.W, and around Scotland including the Western and Northern Isles.
Approaching retirement it's now time for a change. Lying Argyll, currently ashore near Oban for winter storage.
