The North is a boat with an interesting history, originally built for Midlands and Coast in 1925, by W.J.Yarwood and Sons. It has gone through various guises in its life and is now a comfortable pleasure boat with an abundance of character. It is a reluctant sale by a family with a long association with the boat and the waterways.

The North was originally built as a Horse Boat for Midlands and Coast in 1925, by W.J. Yarwood and Sons of Northwich. In 1937 it was converted to a tug by Harris Brothers of Netherton and re-named Crown. In 1957 Malcolm Braine purchased the boat and converted it to a pleasure boat and re-named it Lion, the boat was lengthened to 60ft in the 70’s and then to its current 70ft in 1989. In 2011 it was purchased by the present owners who gave the boat back its original name.

The North has a cratch covered well deck which has all been decorated in a very traditional style. The well deck has lockers and there is a fold down table for outdoor dining.
Saloon / Galley: 11’6”
The saloon is an open spacious area with freestanding furniture, there is a demountable table and the area is heated by a diesel stove, which also feeds the radiators to heat the rest of the boat.
Galley: 9’4”
The galley has recently been re-fitted and has units on both sides, the doors are shaker style and worktops are beech. The galley is equipped with a 12v fridge, freestanding oven, grill and hob and a stainless steel sink with drainer. A morco gas water heater provides instant hot water for the galley and the bathroom.
Bedroom 1: 6’6”
The North has two bedrooms, the first is located between the bathroom and the galley, this bedroom has a fixed double bed with cupboard space over.
Bathroom: 5’6”
The bathroom is located off a starboard side corridor and has recently been renovated, it has a ¾ size bath, Thetford Cassette toilet and a sink that sits on a vanity unit.
Bedroom 2: 6’6”
The second bedroom is located between the bathroom and the engine room, again, there is a double bed with a cupboard unit above.
Engine Room: 6’2”
The engine room houses an ever-reliable Lister HR2 with a Lister Blackstone gearbox. The engine was fully rebuilt in 2012. The engine has a day thank and semi rotary pump. Also in the engine room is the electrical cupboard containing the fuse board and inverter. There are both opening port and starboard hatches with slides.
Back Cabin 7’6”
The back cabin is a traditional arrangement, with a cross bed and table cupboard, the cabin retains the much sought after artwork of Jess Owen. The back cabin is heated by an Epping solid fuel range.
Head Room: 6’2” and 5ft in back cabin.
