Norton Canes Boatbuilders Ltd at Glascote Basin is a centre for narrowboat excellence, including boat building, boat fitting, maintenance, repairs, and brokerage (narrowboat sales).

The standard of our boat building is respected throughout the industry and is cherished by our proud owners. We have a wide range of facilities on site, including a range of workshops and a covered dry dock for surveys, blacking, painting, and repairs. Our permanent boatyard staff consists of 15 skilled professionals with decades of expertise in carpentry, steelwork, engineering, painting, and signwriting.

We offer a comprehensive brokerage service, principally at our Glascote Basin site near Tamworth, but also at our moorings in Norton Canes. Our central location in the heart of the Midlands gives us easy access to the entire canal network. (Our original Norton Canes site now operates as moorings only). Our knowledgeable staff are highly experienced in valuing and selling boats and can guide customers through every stage of the selling and purchasing process.

Norton Canes was established in 1986 when Graham Edgson took over an established boatbuilding business from Malcolm Braine. For over 30 years Graham and his team applied their engineering and fabrication skills to produce traditional style canal boats with fine lines, sweet curves and exquisite balance.

After moving to Glascote Basin on the Coventry Canal in 2015, Graham's daughter Sarah Edgson took over the day to day running of the business, having worked for many years in the family business, and gained valuable experience of brokerage working with Dominic Miles at Rugby Boat Sales. A true narrowboat enthusiast, Sarah owns the ex-working craft Narrowboat Lamprey and serves as Chair of the Historic Narrowboat Club, which aims to preserve the traditions of our canal network.
