Duchess of Atholl is a charming 57’ go-anywhere trad stern narrowboat, built by Steve Hudson in 2006. She has been in the same hands since new, and was last blacked in November 2021 with new anodes on at the same time.
She is fitted out in oak tongue and groove, and oak faced ply, with plenty of traditional handpainted roses and canal features.
The extended bows and well deck have a typical Hudson feel, with a large gas locker in the bow and storage lockers either side of the well deck.
Steps lead down, through glazed forward doors, into the 9’6” saloon. Here there are two captains chairs, a small side table, a Morso Squirrel solid fuel stove, and a range of cupboards and shelves.
The 6’6” dinette follows, with a demountable table, and converts to a spare double when needed. There is a shelf to the starboard side, and storage space under.
Next is the 6’6” galley, with a horseshoe arrangement. There is a stainless steel sink, Vanette oven & grill, Vanette 4 burner gas hob, 12v LEC fridge with ice box, and more cupboards. A starboard side hatch brings in additional light and fresh air.
The bathroom corridor features a wardrobe and smaller cupboard over. The 5’6” off-corridor bathroom contains the Dometic pump out loo, ceramic wash basin, and shower with curtain across.
Stepping up, the engine room is 5’0”, and houses the Beta JD3 engine as well as most of the boat electrics. Navigation is also aided by a Novels bowthruster. Side hatches both sides, and a pigeon box over, bring in more light.
Next is the 9’0” boatmans cabin, with a 5’10” x 4’0” fold out double berth. A Premier boatmans stove keeps you warm, and there is additional storage in here too. A step leads out onto the stern deck.
She is centrally heated by an Eberspacher diesel fired system connected to 3 radiators, and hot water is via the engine, Eberspacher, and immersion.
12v power is supplied by 4x 110ah domestics, with separate bowthruster and engine supply. 240v power is via a Victron Multiplus 1600w inverter/charger, or landline.
Lighting is halogen throughout.
If you fancy feeling like royalty whilst cruising the canals, Duchess could be for you!
